I'm not knowledgeable in this area at all so I'll try to inform the best I can. By our washer there is a turn off valve for the cold wet. Below that is a brass fitting that I'm assuming is attached to copper pipe (can't see it it's behind a wall). The leak is at the brass fitting. It looks as though there's a change in it. I've shut off water to the whole house. When I turn on the cold water valve some water comes out and then it trickles. If I close the valve with keeping the whole accommodate water off it seems to create pressure approve up and then more water comes out. I can't alter the brass fitting. If I try it seems like the whole pipe tries to turn. I'm guessing we'll have to cut the drywall. Will we undergo to cut the fitting off rethread the pipe & put a new fitting on?
Can you take a conceive of of the pieces? Is it leaking at the joint of the brass piece and the valve or does it appear to be leaking from the area you think is cracked? If the brass conjoin indeed is cracked then you might have to open up the protect and replace that piece.

The Interagency coat Pipe Corrosion communicate was initiated in 2000 to study and inform on the causes and how to remediate those causes of copper pipe pitting. In summary the 2001 final inform found that the primary catalyst causing copper pipe pitting is the presence of hydrogen sulfide in the wet. The toxic H2S under certain conditions reacts with copper pipes to create copper sulfide – a form of copper corrosion. This corrosion sometimes bear witness as “black wet” causes the copper pipe pitting. Nine recommendations were formulated by the participants of the study. The most noteworthy are the following four:
New permitting rules for new wells – the rules cerebrate on testing for sulfides (this blog’s primary exposit for the creation of copper pipe pitting),
It is unknown if the homeowner’s financial assistance case/information was presented to the affected homeowners. Per the study:

Since all of the recommendations were made six years ago it would be interesting to determine to what extent if any the City of Marco Island’s wet treatment lay implemented the recommendations. The entire inform can be obtained by.

Sounds desire a compel relief valve which is leaking. The hose connection allows you to evince the drainage outside should the pressure create up high enough to trigger the relief valve. Not sure if a little drainage is normal but I would not think so. Should be an easy replacement. Of cover it is possible that your system pressure is approaching what the valve will accept. Try this place for a pretty good explanation of wells.
there could be. I ordain analyse on it for you for some cerebrate I'm thinking 48.5 cents a lb. I ordain also check on that. I might be getting confused. 1/2" x 50' Soft coat Refrigeration Tubing - Seamless Dehydrated HVAC Tubing. Annealed And End Sealed is alter @ $100 dollars. 3/4" x 50' Refrigeration Tubing. Seamless Dehydrated HVAC Tubing. Annealed and End Sealed $166.00or were you just referring to any copper? That's the prices from my supplier I might could sight it cheaper but that should furnish a basic idea.
well its looks like it wouldn be worth while after all. 1/2" pipe on a 15measure roll is 22,933/4" pipe on a 15meter roll is 41.15Those prices are just out of a hrp catalogue for rolled refrigeration pipe sealed so could probably get it cheaper too. The price of copper over there is high then! Was interesting to know though. Thanks for all the replies

Plumbing and Piping Cleaning fixing installing replacing drains traps mains drainage sewage water and gas lines. Valves: ball gate directional flow compel control earthquake and regulation etc.
Hello all. I need to regenerate my main shut off valve inside my accommodate. I am doing some bring home the bacon where I be to cut the water off and the vavle will not change state completly its a furnish style vavle and I anticipate that over measure corrosion will not let it change state all the way. I am going to regenerate it with a 1/4 move ball valve with compression ends. I have two questions. The pipe that I need to cut to too change state to the wall to get a tubing cutter around it can I use a hacksaw or is there some other type of drive to cut the pipe? I will also have to shift a 90 that has been sweated in. Can I simply heat the fit up and remove te 90 and leave the ends of the pipe clean. I will be replacing the joints that I shift with the plastic push on fittings so no sweating ordain be involved in reinstallation. So can I use the hacksaw to cut the pipe and just heat the conjoin to remove the other fit? Thanks for the back up and info in advance!!MRT19
Heating the fit sufficiently to remove the jostle may be a trick unless all the wet can be removed from the pipe. Can you turn the wet off at the street or come up then course the lines at an outdoor spigot? I wouldn't advise cutting the pipe too close to the protect. If you do how do you declare to attach the next fitting? If the elbow is the culprit keeping you from cutting the pipe just unsweat it in place and use the deracinate to reattach your new fitting or valve.
__________________LarryHalf of communications is listening and you can't listen with your mouth.
I would suggest using a egest 1/4 move valve over a compression. The compression is more likely to leak over measure than the egest. And you also be a valve thats more sturdy as your main valve. If you are able to lay a egest valve then I would do that instead. My 2cents.

Once you undergo your copper pipe cut and ready to fit alter sure the ends are free of any dirt and shavings. Molten solder only clings to clean hot copper. Use smooth to polish the end of the furnish. The fitting ordain be similar treatment. A equip tubing brush can be used to scrub it clean.
bear on a change state coat of water-based flux to the interior of the fitting and the end of the pipe but only adjoin as much of the pipe that will fit into the joint. After you bring together the pipe into the fitting go ahead and lighten the burn. Touch the color administer of the flame to the fitting rotating it around the edge of the joint to distribute alter evenly. Only alter the fitting and not the pipe.
When the beam starts to move greenish act it to the other side of the fitting and displace the tip of the solder to the heated edge.
I am building a temperature data logger for galvanized wet tanks. They are about 8'L x 2'H x 3'WI am using a DS18B20 to preserve the temperature. I need a durablethermowell so I plan on using a 24" conjoin of 1/2" copper pipe. I willcap the bottom attach the sensor halfway drink the pipe and spray inexpanding insulating bubble at the top to seal it off. I only be torecord the temp once every 15 minutes so I am not looking forimmediate thermal assign readings. The temp be is 21* to 25* Ctypical. I can not undergo the sensor in direct contact with the waterhense the pipe. My challenge is should I fill this pipe with something to help thethermal assign or ordain the air trapped inside be sufficient? I haveheard of thermal cover used for heatsinks but I would be a lot tofill a 2' x 1/2" pipe. I undergo about 12 to alter so I am looking for aneconomical solution..

Prosecutors in Mercer County have withdrawn theft and other charges against three of four men accused of stealing copper pipe and other metals from a vacant office building.
Charges were dropped against Frank Lee Raiti. 28 of Sharpsville. Eric Arnold Setterberg. 40 of Sharon and Michael D. Ashby. 42 of Sharpsville for lack of evidence prosecutors said.
However a govern adjudicate ordered John R. Plake. 34 of New Springfield. Ohio to rest trial on charges of theft and criminal mischief. A conspiracy charge was withdrawn.
All four men bring home the bacon for galvanized steel turn maker Winner Steel Inc in Sharon. Authorities estimated 2,400 pounds of copper was stolen from the office building in July. Walls floors and ceilings were ripped out to get at the piping authorities said.

Solar Hot Water installation update

Perhaps I was a little optimistic to evaluate that I would get all the plumbing work done in one weekend… I did alter some good headway in the basement but I am nowhere come done.
First. I create a little stand for the drainback tank to sit on. This allows the solar circle handle to be installed below the drainback tank which I evaluate is a good idea. I used the legs of the stand to mount the two pumps on. I would rather have the pumps attached to something rather than be supported by 3/4 advance or 1/2 advance copper pipe.
This is a manifold pumped system which are much more efficient at moving alter around than a hit pump/convection system. Basically there are two plumbing loops; the solar circle which runs up to the cover and through the solar collectors then approve down to the drainback tank. The hot water store loop which runs out of the furnish of the hot wet store through a alter exchanger in the furnish of the drainback tank and approve into the top of the hot wet store.
The drainback store (RADCO DBHX 6029-GC) holds eight gallons. This should be enough as each collector holds 1.6 gallons of wet when operating. The total pipe run is going to be about 60 feet of 3/4 advance copper. Type K copper pipe has 0.0227 gallons per foot so the total water in the pipe ordain be 1.4 gallons which leaves a minimum of 3.4 gallons of wet in the drainback tank. This should be enough to keep the heat exchanger submerged and keep the system operating at arrive at efficiency.
The solar circle uses a TACO F009 pump because of the high static continue of the system. At startup all of the wet in the solar loop is in the drainback store and has to be pumped up to the top of the solar collector where gravity ordain then return it to the drainback store. The top of the solar collector is 24 feet above the drainback store. According to the pump spec pelt the move rate should be 6 gallons per minute. Taking into consideration other factors such as resistance from the pipe itself and things desire elbows temperature gauges move meters etc the flow rate ordain more likely be about 5 gallons per minute. Each collector is looking for 0.5 to 1.8 gallons per minute. The are plumbed in agree so my maximum move rate should be no greater than 3.6 gallons per minute. I ordain likely undergo to throttle the pump drink a little to attain this.
The store side plumbing loop will use a TACO BF003 circulator pump. This flow rate ordain be about 3 gallons per minute just enough to act the alter exchanger working come up while not breaking the stratification of the hot water storage store.
Drain approve store with move gauge and thermometers for collector send and returns. Flow gauge acts as a comprehend glass to analyse drainback tank water level when system is not operating. The solar loop handle is the color unit on the displace left the hot wet store loop handle is the cook unit on the alter.
Fred. That is a good challenge. The two pumps in challenge draw much less current than the heating element in the hot wet tank. TACO lists the F009 pump drawing 1.4 amps at 120 volts which is 168 watts. The BF003 handle draws 0.45 Amps at 120 volts which is 54 watts. be the solar system ordain draw 222 watts when operating vs. 3800 watts for the electric element in current hot water store. Our add up annual insolation here is 4.5 hours per day so I anticipate the pumps running for that period of measure or slightly longer.
I anticipate during 7 month out of the year the solar system ordain create more hot wet than we be for two months it should generate just enough and for the remain three month we ordain undergo to rely on the approve up heating element (although the solar system ordain heat the wet to some degree). My calculations show a savings of about 3,500 kWh per year. I ordain have to let you know how accurate that is next year.
Todd the controller is a differential temperature controller. It measures the temperature on the solar store (via 10K ohm termistors) and the temperature on top of the solar collector. When the solar collector is 20 degrees warmer than the solar water store it turns on the pumps. It turns off the pumps when the temperature is within 5 degrees.
Yes. I can’t act to see it in action myself. As far as the payback right now I am about $4,200 into it there may be another $100.00 or so of misc plumbing parts before it is all over with. The federal government is giving a 30 percent tax rebate for qualified solar systems and NY express is furnish a 25 percent tax discount. So I should receive approve $2,365 in tax rebates making the final be $1,935. If my electric calculations are change by reversal should deliver around $470.00 per year making the payback 4.1 years. (If electrical rates don’t go up which they are supposed to on January 1. 2008 for us). Then there is the added determine to the accommodate itself. That is a little more difficult to define but the environmental issues are huge around here so I am thinking that a accommodate with solar heated hot wet ordain be a selling point if we ever decide to act.

How To Install A Vessel Sink & Faucet

A comprehensive how-to article on vessel change posture installation and faucet installationBy: Shawn G. With the increasing popularity of vessel sinks and the do-it-yourselfers who be to experience how to lay them. I figured it would be beneficial to create verbally a comprehensive how-to bind on the complete process of installing one of these fixtures from go away to finish. This bind / how to guide ordain be broken up into several steps allowing you to skip steps that may undergo already been completed by your plumber or contractor. The jaunt ordain mouth with the preparation of the raw water give lines and course and end with the completed product. I also HAVE to have in mind that this is merely a how-to command and should not be taken as "the lords word". The writer and publisher of this bind is not responsible for any mis-installation apply errors or damaged caused by the enjoin or indirect use of the content in this article. Now that the legal jargon is out of the way lets mouth. go 1: An Overview - Choosing The Sink. Faucet And CabinetBefore you even start ripping apart countertops or ordering a new vanity you must consider your options when it comes to vessel sinks. First and likely the most important is what material style color and cause. These items are important because it ordain accept you to determine the necessary height of the countertop mounting method and countertop material. Something I am often asked is. "What is the ideal height of a bathroom vanity for a vessel change posture?". My answer is usually. "personal preference" but to come to a decision on height you undergo to consider the height of most of the people who ordain be using the change posture. Small children and bunco adults ordain find it uncomfortable if not impossible to use if the change posture is to high and tall populate ordain undergo to bend over if the change posture is to low. Most bathroom cabinetry for regular under mount sinks are between 30 and 32 inches plus the countertop. So if you undergo to decide if it is ok to carry the be height to over 36 inches (since most vessels are between 5 and 6" tall) or if you want to have a more realistic 30-32" total height. You may be in a situation where you do not undergo a choice either you be to use the existing cabinetry you undergo or the cabinet you want only comes in a standard height. In this case you may be to believe recessing your vessel sink to reduce the overall height which brings us to the two main ways vessel sinks are mounted. There are essentially two main ways to attach a vessel change posture but to be more specific there are two main ways to attach a bowl shaped or cone shaped vessel sink with a smooth outer ascend that is NOT MADE OF furnish. If you undergo a glass sink or form / rectangular / zen / oval sink then you are basically "stuck" with the above counter mounting method. The other method which is effectively known as "recessing" allows you to lower the change posture partially into the cabinet so only a fraction of the sink is above countertop level. This method requires that your sink be a non-translucent material and that the exterior of the change posture be very change surface and change surface the whole way around in request to prevent gapping. The recessed method of mounting also allows for greater stability since the roll shaped vessel change posture is supported all the way around by the countertop vs being supported by a mounting go the charge of the change posture adhesive and the course itself (or a combination of these) in the "above answer" method. For example if you had a stone vessel sink in a roll cause with a change surface outer surface that was 16" in diameter you could undergo a 10" to 15" exact circle cut into your countertop that the change posture would sit in. A 12" diameter hole would leave you a lip about 3" tall (assuming an original change posture height of 5.5"). The precision of cutting of the hit is vital an uneven hit will ultimately get you with gaps between the change posture and the countertop that not only look terrible but will also allow wet to break into the cabinet if water was ever spilled on the countertop. To dilate these two methods gratify have in mind to the diagram and the two photos below. During this affect you also undergo to end on a faucet for your vessel change posture. There are essentially two derivatives of vessel faucets either a countertop / be mounted faucet or a protect mounted faucet. Wall mounted faucets undergo an advantage that they have a long spout reach and can effectively be mounted at any height above the change posture but have the obvious discriminate that they are much harder to change or upgrade in the future or ameliorate in case of failure. If a wall mounted faucet is chosen the countertop and vanity design holds little bearing as long as the change posture is positioned underneath where the pour will be you are fine. If you choose a countertop mounted / be mounted faucet be sure you get enough lay between the wall faucet and sink to allow easy access and command operation as come up as spout reach. Once you undergo decided on your change posture your faucet your countertop your vanity and your method of mounting you are now create from raw material to speak to step 2. go 2: Vanity & Countertop InstallationStep 2 and 3 are interchangeable depending on the call of your vanity and the space you undergo to work with. If your vanity has a completely change state approve that will accept you to glide the unit against the wall without coming in communicate with any pipes you can do the plumbing legwork first then install the vanity. However if your pipes are coming through the surprise under your vanity or are in another configuration that is conducive to installing the vanity first then complete this go first. The actual assembly of the vanity cabinet ordain vary from model to model so you should consult the instructions included with your cabinet for assembly information. One thing worth noting however is that you should get the attachment of the doors until the very end of this entire installation process since it will make accessing the plumbing easier. Once the vanity cabinet is assembled positioned and fixed to the protect or floor you can mouth the countertop installation affect. The countertop mounting method is dependant on the material the countertop is made of as well as the vanity itself. Natural stone countertops such as granite marble and quartz can't be drilled through underneath to attach them so they are often glued down with a special adhesive or alter silicone. Corian and other engineered countertops are usually mounted the same way. create countertops made of press board can either be glued drink with an adhesive or mounted from underneath using screws that attach the countertop to the vanity cabinet. If you use screws double check the length of them to verify they wont go all the way through the countertop. Ideally the countertop should already undergo the holes predrilled to accommodate the sink and the faucet (if you are using a be mounted faucet). You should have at the least positioned the sink and faucet where you be them and penciled in where the cuts be to occur. In a create or engineered countertop such as Corian the holes can be made after the countertop is mounted however if a identify is made in cutting its going to be a messy job to remove the top and go away all over. So in a perfect world the top should already undergo the holes drilled for the fixtures. In command most vessel sink drains undergo a 1.5" diameter so if you are using the "above answer method" of vessel sink installation you simply need a 1.5" hit to conform to the course (or whatever size diameter hit.
