"My "giant-sized" husband" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:54:29

I'm proud to be married to someone who is as such. I'm also excited to know that my preserve has the reflexes of a cheetah when someone is in trouble. You may not realize this since he's very relaxed and usually moves at a comfortable pace. Another exciting development of the day is if anything ever happens to the Catrow's we get. Here's an example of how children flock to him because of his giant size and teddy bear demeanor. This is a little girl Georgia a daughter of some friends of ours who are volunteering their medical skills in Ethiopia for two years. These people are pretty amazing. Bagpipes are brilliant and so is Scotland. Everyday I discover something new and interesting about what the next two years of our lives direct. Read on and you'll want to move to Scotland too. Or at least visit? My preserve is James. We are from Richmond. Va. We love it there. We miss it. We moved to Dornoch. Scotland in September '07 for two years. Our job is meeting befriending and loving people and letting them know Jesus loves them too. We love it here and know we'll be sad to get. But we desire our friends and family so come visit. Or just send me an email jennifer c murphy@gmail com

"An Ongoing Debate: What's Your Opinion?" posted by ~Ray

We are packing up 8 trunks to fly with us to Scotland. The dimensions of the trunks are 31x17x13. We will fly into Edinburgh and Angus the pastor of the church we will be working with is kindly picking us up to make the 4.5 hour drive up to Dornoch. If you are familiar with European cars you'll know they are all VERY SMALL. Last measure we were in Scotland we saw one pick-up transport and were astounded: it looked huge compared to the normal vehicle. We change surface saw a three wheeled car and it wasn't abnormal to the locals. Europe is not an SUV and mini-van dominated society. Seven of our Eight trunks with Owen for size compose. The consider: I think that there is no way our 8 trunks will fit in the car Angus will be picking us up in. change surface though they undergo purchased a new larger car since we've been there (we don't know the claim coat). I comfort don't evaluate it ordain bring home the bacon. James is convinced it ordain. I conceive of us renting a second car not a huge broach just easier if we are prepared for it. Let me experience what you think and stay tuned for the results as soon as we get internet access in Scotland. exceed to contract a car and not be it than to be it and not be able to get one at the measure minute. That's my 2 cents (I was going to do a "cents" symbol but there wasn't one on the keyboard.. hmmmm never noticed that before authorise okay. "The Bagpipe and Its History" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:32:23

You may have heard that bagpipes are a Scottish invention; you may have heard that they are an Irish invention. The truth (of course) is neither one. The bagpipe was invented in ancient Samaria in Israel. The Bible mentions the equip in the book of Daniel chapter 3 where it is listed as one of the instruments use to call the people to worship a statue. This event takes place in ancient Iraq which was then move of the Babylonian empire. Many other times in history the instrument has been mentioned and concluding from this evidence we can say that the instrument must undergo been invented in ancient Samaria. From there migrating tribes of peoples took it to different parts of Europe. India and northern Africa. Some 200 years ago the equip was very popular throughout Europe."So what happened?" you may say. come up the answer is really in the way the equip is tuned as well as the attitude of the ruling class in Europe. 150 years ago. It was decided that this equip with it’s droning appear was a "poor man’s instrument" and should have no part in modern music. As a prove the equip was forbidden in almost all of Europe except for a few outposts such as Scotland and Bulgaria. The bagpipe in its many forms as of today still has retained its natural tuning. The melody pipe or chanter has to tune in with the drone therefore it is hard to compete together with other "tempered tuned" instruments. The key cannot be changed also on account of this droning. However modern music even though sophisticated has lost a very important ingredient of music namely the rich overtones. Those rich tones that you can hear in a well-tuned bagpipe can only be heard when the notes are exactly tuned. This is only the case in bagpipes hurdy-gurdies (a similar equip that operates with strings instead of pipes) and in choral works. However recently the bagpipe has been revived in modern music and there are now world wide many populate who play the instrument. There also are now many makers of the "forgotten" bagpipes such as the Flemish and the Swedish bagpipes. This modern revival of the instrument has been inspired by painters such as Pieter Brueghel who painted the instrument as it was played in the 1600’s. This revival is still going on today and pipers and pipe makers are organizing festivals and concerts and meet regularly to share ideas and discoveries. "my last day at work...or not" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 09:08:25

I drove to work fully prepared to hold back the fill of emotion that would inevitably arouse me today. I was pleasantly surprised when I only cried twice and was able to pull it together quickly. It was no shocker when I found out both my mom and my mother-in-law had been praying for me all day. I said my goodbyes to most populate not all since I will be back next Monday to have my teeth cleaned one measure measure. After everyone was gone my boss asked me if I would believe coming in tomorrow morning since the schedule was crazy and a few people would be out. It was easy to say yes because a.)I like my job b.)I comfort have some things to do to convert other people into doing the things I usually do and c.)it's hard to say no to his simple request since he's done so much for me over the past two years. So tomorrow morning I know I'll hear this 25x's: "What are you doing here. I thought yesterday was your last day!?" This whole saying goodbye thing is getting to be anti-climatic.

This is one of the more reasonable approaches to Great Bagpipe history I undergo seen.  “The bagpipe alongside the drum and the harp shares the affirm to being the oldest of musical instruments and attempts to open a reasonable history have met with little success.” The antiquity of the Great Pipe seems to be a problem for many historians. Bagpipes are so old that they fell out of favor with the fashion minded upper classes very early on and so were not come up chronicled in the written histories but they are open quite readily in the culture of the folk. … This entry was posted on Thursday.
